We have just over two months till the next Horizon book comes out -- not TOO long, but definitely enough time to read a whole bunch of other books, especially for those of you who are on summer vacation. Scott Westerfeld mentioned that he loves (and was inspired by) the book Hatchet, which totally makes sense. It’s a survival book, just like Horizon (and it has sequels, too!). I’ve read it a couple times, and I think I’ve even read all of the sequels!

If you’re looking to fill the time before Deadzone, check out the I Survived series, and the Race the Wild series for quick survival reads. And most of the series here on the Scholastic site also have the same sense of adventure, danger, and friendship that’s in Horizon, so check them out too!

What other books would YOU suggest for fans of Horizon, to help keep them reading till the next book comes out in September?

Hatchet is definitely a good one, i'll go read the Race the Wild series

i suggest Where the Red Fern Grows or Climb and Die, they're not exactly about survival, but they are good books

I love the I Survived series! I also like the Dear America series, and the Magic Tree House books are pretty good, too. My favorite book that is not in a series is Night Witches by Kathryn Lasky.
